Wheel".

Repulsive
Aggression is allegedly a Norwegian death metal band. We don’t get that many of
that kind coming from the Fjells and Fjords of our Western cousins. Not that I
mind. I find a Norwegian death metal band as enticing as any other death metal
band. This was heavier than I had expected. I thought it would be some wild run
through the Norwegian forests but this is so controlled that I start to wonder
if they are really Norwegian. I’m all for discipline and order but sometimes it
can be too much. I kinda need some chaos in my music to feel like I have
control over my life. Having said that I have to say that this isn’t bad in any
way. I like this album. I’m glad that it came my way.

From the wintery lands of Norway, the home to more traditional Black Metal bands and values than anywhere else comes a Death Metal band with heavy Thrash influences going by the name of REPULSIVE AGGRESSION! Formed in 2011 by guitarist Saether of Svarttjern and Bloodspawn, and vocalist Holter who also used to appear in Svarttjern. Later on the band would be completed by the recruiting of drummer Nodset of Frail Grounds and soon the bands debut release, a three track demo was released, a release that would lead to Repulsive Aggression being picked up by Schwarzdorn Productions! Due to experience in various Black Metal bands, a cold Blackened feel can be felt throughout the bands work, and the bands debut studio full length album ‘Conflagration’ benefits greatly from the diverse nature of this trio’s influences! The promotional blurb was not lying in the case of Repulsive Aggression, a band who have Black Metal coursing through their collective veins, masked by a veneer of Thrash influenced Death Metal hostility! Fast, obviously aggressive and at times flat out apocalyptic, Repulsive Aggression do not seem to know the meaning of the word relent! Forceful behaviour, damaging sounds and a ruthless will to wreak havoc and destroy all, this band simply refuse to yield in their full frontal Metal assault.
Whilst the album does tend to be a little one, maybe two dimensional, (There is on display a nice level of technical prowess and various catchy break downs in pace) you cannot argue with ten tracks of frantic, abusive and punishing Death Metal, especially when influenced heavily by a Thrashing nature and a core of Black Metal bleak hostility and hatred! Well worth a listen I’m sure you’ll agree.

I couldn't find much info about Norwegian act
Repulsive Aggression, but I believe I'm correct in saying that ‘Conflagration'
is their first full-length release. It contains ten tracks of tightly focussed
death metal with thrash influences littered throughout. Some members of the
band were involved in black metal acts prior to recording this album last March
and this has resulted in an icy edge to some of the tracks. Coupled with the
brutality of some parts, it works well.
Repulsive Aggression's approach involves plenty of
bottom end rhythms that bubble away in the darkness, creating an excellent
groove, layered with some great drumming that features lots of toms,
intelligent double bass (ie. used cleverly rather than just splattered
throughout as we see too often) and excellent snare work. The vocals are a bit
higher than the usual DM gravel voice and slightly distorted, so they really
work well and make a nice change from the usual fare. The guitars mostly
contribute to rhythm with a dark and cutting feel, although the leads are
incisive too. There is a good balance of fast/mid/slow material and all of it
is played with sufficient energy and force that it doesn't drag or allow the
listener to switch off.
It is difficult to place whether this is more
influenced by US or Euro death metal, and that is a good thing. ‘Conflagration'
manages to sound original while not actually sounding substantially different
from the rest of the field, if that makes any sense! The death metal atmosphere
isn't super thick. It never made me feel like I was trying to escape from a
crypt of festering zombies, but I think that is because the focus was on
creating a groove that would carry the listener along and making each song as
solid as it could be and Repulsive Aggression have been successful on both
counts.
This is easily one of the better DM releases of the
year and introduces a band I'll be keeping my eye on in the future.

Aggression.
Το “Conflagration”

Das norwegische Trio Repulsive Aggression bringt dieser
Tage sein Debut in die Regale. Gegründet 2008, setzt sich die Band zu zwei
Drittel aus Svattjern- (Black Metal) Mitgliedern und zu einem Drittel aus Frail
Grounds (Power Progressive Metal) zusammen. Wer jetzt aber an eine weitere
Black Metal-Inzuchtband denkt, liegt komplett daneben.
So
gepresst.

Formé en 2008 par Saether (SVARTTJERN) et Holter
(ex-SVARTTJERN),

bois.
Un disque qui devrait attirer les fans aussi bien de LEGION OF THE
DAMNED que d'ARCH ENEMY.
Legacy (D)
(FSH)

Repulsive Aggression is

REPULSIVE AGGRESSION musikalisch abliefern – klingt schwarz, tiefschwarz.
Also Old-School-Freunde
verdreschen lassen will.

muss man erst einmal zustande bringen.

mostruoso.

It is both a privilege and a curse to get all these promos sometimes. The
good thing is the opportunity to discover new music and the downside is that
there are so many good bands out there which I’ve missed and it gets very
expensive to buy all records I like. Receiving Norwegian REPULSIVE AGGRESSION’s
debut album “Conflagration” I first thought it was a compilation record of some
kind; it looked very similar to the ones that come with Terrorizer Magazine or
so.
But I was wrong! REPULSIVE AGGRESSION’s debut album is far more interesting
than my first impression of the album's promo version, but of course, the cover
artwork is the same as the real one. They’ve managed to create a very cool
mixture of old school Death Metal having one foot on the Swedish heritage and
the other on the American East Coast with a modern touch. Then everything is spiced
up with a touch of Black Metal. This mix for me is perfect. I love the
atmospheric parts in Black Metal but for me brutal music needs to be brutal and
edgy. REPULSIVE AGGRESSION manage all of it. Take “Breaking Wheel” for example:
it has all these influences embedded in the song. Then, the mid-tempo break
from the non-stop fury makes it even better.
The sound on this album falls also right on my taste. I like it when it is
organic and not too adjusted still without being too primitive. It all is a fine
balance but REPULSIVE AGGRESSION hit right on I think. The trademark track is
“Repulsive Aggression” that touches the new breed of the old school; the
beginning sounds a bit like 21st century’s ENTOMBED. And then, who can resist a
title like “Leave Her To Rot”, a more straight forward riffy track, very catchy
which makes it even more macabre.
These just under 41 minutes of Death Metal were a really pleasant
knowledge. If finding this in a record store I would have looked passed it,
mainly due to already mentioned reason. However, I’m really glad I was forced
into listening to this one, because since “Conflagration” is absolutely
something I would buy. To summarize this I’d say this is awesome music in a not
as great package, so keep in mind to look past the cover... (7/10)

Another blow to mankind’s self-destruction, an additional flavour to the
deathly stew waiting to be plunged upon us one day, and I am not counting the
Maya or Nostradameus prophecies. Doom will come if none of which is known will
be corrected. There have been plenty of warnings, stop signs, cries smeared
with anguish about the current state of affair but as you probably know, if the
danger is far away, it should bother. I totally disagree with that perception
as there shouldn’t be a threat, no imminent danger at hand. Why not look into
the horizon in peace? Some would claim where is the action in all this? Yet the
logical ones would prefer armistice and quiet for chaos and desperation. I hope
that I understood correctly the main ideas that went on the debut album,
“Conflagration”, via Schwarzdorn Production,of the Norwegian Death / Thrash act
named REPLUSIVE AGGRESSION. Whether I got the point or not, I think I was
pretty close. Anyhow, the rather newly endeavour of SVARTTJERN / BLOODSPAWN /
FRAIL GROUNDS members seemed to have paid off with this here release following
the blood soaked road filled with elements of the local Blackish extreme Metal
scene, boasting with hefty drips of modern Death and insolent Thrash.
With a cumbersome production that didn’t leave any room for speculations,
REPLUSIVE AGGRESSION charged with everything they had for this one. Heading
down the road that made me imagine MACHINE HEAD, SLAYER, DEW-SCENTED, THE
CROWN, CALLENISH CIRCLE drenched in a bloody pit that will leave no one alive
as witness, straightforwardness was the key, strike hard with no sympathy for
the weak. Guitars rolling with fast picking riffs along with low tuned grooves
and palm muted chunks, bass following the rhythms with no impact at all, drums
thumping endlessly, running on fuels of the Thrashier nature, in fierce
decisiveness and an angered vocalic manifestation of mid to low end growls
urging for the so needed reclamation. However, I have to admit that I was
somewhat upset about the opening “Necrosis” as it was too obvious, not
contributing anything to the rest of the tracks, like an average downer. The
following “Plaguebringer”, and later on, “Leave Me To Rot” were the shake
things up with slightly more diverse rhythms, an opening riffing that recalled
some of late 90s Black Metal offerings with a tangy atmosphere, and even a fine
solo to build something upon. Still it didn’t meet the band’s full potential; I
had to wait a few more tracks before getting to something closer. “Predator”,
provoking with a melodic intro that hint that a storm is coming to engulf the
empty mined, chopped fast, with great riffing and a swell lead fretwork in such
a manner that resembled DEW-SCENTED, one of my greatest preferences in Death /
Thrash. REPLUSIVE AGGRESSION needed to deplete some of the gathered energies,
and it was done here. “Reborn Through Annihilation” sent the band back in the
slow to mid tempo vehemence, sinking their teeth hard into the flesh of the
wicked with a heavy chunk of Metallic tines of destructive riffing.
Nonetheless, speed was never a matter of letting go and the rapid onslaught
showed its face once again but for a rather shorter period. I really enjoyed
the finishing touch of the lead guitar and drum work ready to invite the
conclusion of the track.
All in all, REPLUSIVE AGGRESSION, with their experience and over novice
abilities, their newly creation didn’t make any sort of difference.
“Conflagration” is a good album and a solid opening for hopefully something
greater. In short, this is a heavy piece of Metal, diverse in a few ways,
nicely produced, aiming to capture extreme Metal fans along with a few
Thrashers along the way. (7/10)

So rotieren
So sollte man
"Conflagration" auch bewerten. Keine großen Aha-Effekte erwarten,
sondern einfach mal ne halbe Stunde zuballern lassen. Dafür ist sind REPULSIVE
AGGRESSION auf jeden Fall eine gute Wahl!

Betrachtet
Doch weit gefehlt, was uns
Black Metaller nichts vom Death Metal verstehen?
Death Fans dürfen hier also

powołany do życia przez dwóch muzyków powiązanych z zespołem Svarttjern
(gitarzysta Saether oraz wokalista Holter), czyli ni mniej ni więcej mamy
kolejny akt sonicznego terroru z Norwegii. Podczas sesji debiutanckiego albumu
„Conflagration” wspomógł ich perkusista Nodset praktykujący m.in. w Frail
dłużej pochylić i zagłębić w mrocznym death/thrash metalowym labiryncie, jaki
stanowi dziesięć kompozycji nań zawartych. Tak, zdecydowanie stylistyczny
fundament norweskiego tercetu stanowi death metal, umiejscowiony gdzieś w
połowie drogi pomiędzy jego dwoma szkołami, amerykańską i skandynawską. Trudno
odnośniki do konkretnych zespołów.
Sami
wiemy, jak poważne to wyzwanie w obecnych czasach i jak nieliczna grupa
wykonawców potrafi rzucić rękawicę, więc tym bardziej warto uszanować każdą, w
szczególności jak w tym przypadku owocną próbę. Właśnie, zatem jaki mamy efekt
finalny? Osobliwy, a tym samym wymagający i w dwójnasób intrygujący. Norwedzy
wykorzystują stanowczo i z należytą pokorą.
Daleko
Norwegom do jakiejkolwiek awangardy.
niedosyt. Oto przykład, do czego doprowadzają subiektywne przyzwyczajenia i
oczekiwania!?!

Gerade in
Voice from the Dark Side
Fans of Norwegian
based Black Metal legion SVARTTJERN should watch out here. REPULSIVE AGGRESSION
from Oslo has Saether (axe and 4 strings) and ex - SVARTTJERN Holter (in the
vocal department) in its ranks. The trio, which was brought to life in 2008, is
completed by drummer Nodset from FRAIL GROUND (with whom I am not familiar
with). Despite being quite close to the Norge Black Metal scene this outfit
doesn't come up with a blackened sound of total darkness. Instead of that we
get an aggressive, very well executed brand of Death / Thrash Metal which is
very refreshing and delivers over 40 minutes of sheer headbanging madness.
"Conflagration" consists of ten cool tracks whose riffing is
definately revelling in the Thrash territory. I really enjoy that fact. The
different musical experiences and backgrounds of each member are skillfully
incorporated into the overall sound. This makes the metallic offering varied
and interesting at once and guarantees some extra spins in your CD player. The
technical level is high but without annoying the listener with guitar wanking
of any kind. The skills are for the sake of the songs to create the best
entertainment possible. In my humble opinion the album has just killers but no
fillers. Tunes like the uncompromising and straight title track, the powerful
opener 'Necrosis', 'Plaguebringer' (a hypnotizing, heavy steamroller) or the intense
'Sub Human Destruction' (great mid pace with raging speed outbursts) are just
examples of the high quality songwriting of these three Northmen. Great breaks,
exquisite leads, pounding drums, a wide range in the speed department - this
disc has it all. The production is up to date, crispy and powerful. It has the
right vibe and isn't clinical at all like on a lot of today's releases. Finally
again an excellent record from this Northern European country which is not in
the Black Metal vein and worth the hard earned bucks. For more info visit

Das ist ja
wieder mal typisch.
Meine Empfehlung. (8/10)
